General Maurice Gamelin

Maurice Gamelin was the French Supreme Commander at the outbreak of the Battle of France in May 1940. His plan committed the Allies' best mobile forces into Belgium (the Dyle Plan), which played directly into the German Army's Ardennes breakthrough at Sedan, severing the Allied front. Relieved of command on 18 May 1940, replaced by Maxime Weygand, too late to alter the campaign's outcome.
