General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck

Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck commanded German colonial forces in German East Africa throughout the First World War, waging an extraordinarily successful guerrilla campaign against vastly larger British, Belgian and Portuguese forces with a force that never exceeded a few thousand men. He remained undefeated in the field for the entire war, surrendering only after the Armistice, and returned to Germany as one of its few celebrated military heroes of the conflict.
