General Pyotr Bagration
Pyotr Bagration, a Russian general of Georgian princely descent renowned for his personal courage, commanded the Russian Second Army at Borodino in September 1812, where he was mortally wounded by shrapnel while defending the fortified positions known as the Bagration flèches, named for him. He died of his wounds seventeen days later, one of the war's most mourned Russian losses.
