General Sir Henry Rawlinson
Henry Rawlinson commanded the British Fourth Army at the Battle of the Somme in 1916, including its catastrophic first day on 1 July, the bloodiest single day in British Army history with roughly 57,000 casualties. He went on to command British forces during the successful Hundred Days Offensive of 1918 that helped end the war.
