George III of Great Britain
George III reigned during the loss of the American colonies (1776-1783), the abolition of the slave trade (1807), and the Napoleonic Wars. His policies toward the American colonies contributed directly to the American Revolution. He suffered episodes of mental illness and the last decade of his reign was conducted under his son as Prince Regent.
