George VI

Second son of George V thrust onto the throne by his brother's abdication, who became a symbol of national resolve during the Second World War by remaining in London through the Blitz. Despite a severe stammer, he broadcast effectively to his people and to the Empire throughout the war, working closely with Winston Churchill. He was the last Emperor of India, relinquishing the title when India gained independence in 1947.
