Gregor Mendel
Augustinian friar Gregor Mendel (1822–1884) whose meticulous experiments crossing pea plants in the Brno monastery garden between 1856 and 1863 revealed the particulate laws of inheritance—dominance, segregation, and independent assortment—founding the science of genetics, though his work was not widely recognised until 1900.
