Harun al-Rashid
Fifth Abbasid Caliph (r. 786–809) whose court in Baghdad represented the high point of Abbasid power; a patron of scholars, poets, and musicians, his reign is celebrated in the Arabian Nights. He maintained diplomatic correspondence with Charlemagne and waged successful campaigns against the Byzantine Empire.
