Hassan al-Banna
Egyptian primary-school teacher (1906–1949) who founded the Muslim Brotherhood in Ismailia in 1928, building it into the Arab world's most influential Islamist organisation through social welfare networks, schools, and political activism; his ideology of political Islam shaped movements across the Middle East. Assassinated by Egyptian government agents in February 1949.
