Henry III
Son of King John who came to the throne as a child of nine and reigned for 56 years, one of England's longest reigns. His reign saw Parliament develop as a more formal institution, particularly after the baronial reform movement led by Simon de Montfort and the Provisions of Oxford. A pious and cultured king, he rebuilt Westminster Abbey in the Gothic style.
