Henry IV
First Lancastrian king who usurped the throne from Richard II in 1399, spending much of his reign suppressing rebellions including those of Owen Glendower in Wales and the Percy family in the north. He was the first English king since the Conquest whose mother tongue was English rather than French. His reign was plagued by financial difficulties and ill-health.
