Heraklonas

Heraklonas was the Byzantine emperor for several months in 641, the son of Heraclius by his second wife Martina, a union widely condemned as incestuous since Martina was Heraclius's niece. He became joint emperor with his half-brother Constantine III upon Heraclius's death in February 641. When Constantine III died in May 641, Heraklonas and his mother Martina became sole rulers. Their opponents accused Martina of having murdered Constantine III. In autumn 641 a coup deposed Heraklonas. He was mutilated by rhinotomy and exiled to Rhodes with his mother. He died shortly thereafter, still a teenager.
