Hideo Shima
Hideo Shima was the chief engineer of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, the world's first high-speed rail line, which opened on 1 October 1964 running Tokyo–Osaka at 210 km/h. His engineering leadership created a model for high-speed rail that inspired France, Germany, China, and beyond.
