Hippocrates of Cos
Ancient Greek physician from Cos regarded as the 'Father of Medicine.' He and his school separated medicine from superstition, insisting diseases have natural causes and should be treated by observation and diet rather than ritual. The Hippocratic Corpus (over 60 texts) established clinical observation, prognosis, and the physician's ethical duty to the patient — codified in the Hippocratic Oath, still taken by doctors worldwide in adapted form.
