Hosius of Córdoba

Hosius of Córdoba was an influential Spanish bishop and principal ecclesiastical advisor to Emperor Constantine I, serving as the emperor's main envoy in theological disputes. He presided over the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE, which formulated the Nicene Creed condemning Arianism, and the Council of Sardica in 343 CE. At the extraordinary age of around 100, he was pressured by Emperor Constantius II to sign an Arian formula, which he reportedly did under duress and subsequently recanted before his death.
