Ictinus

Ictinus was an Athenian architect of the 5th century BCE, principal designer of the Parthenon on the Athenian Acropolis in collaboration with Callicrates, under the overall artistic supervision of Phidias and the patronage of Pericles. He also designed the Temple of Apollo at Bassae in Arcadia, considered by Pausanias the most beautiful temple in the Peloponnese after the Parthenon, and contributed to the Telesterion at Eleusis. His work represents a master synthesis of Doric and Ionic elements and the subtle optical refinements that give the Parthenon its appearance of perfect proportion.
