Idi Amin Dada

Idi Amin Dada seized power in Uganda in a 1971 military coup and ruled as a brutal dictator until 1979. His regime was responsible for the deaths of between 100,000 and 500,000 Ugandans through executions, death squads, and ethnic persecution. He expelled Uganda's Asian community in 1972 and destroyed the economy. He was deposed in 1979 when Tanzania invaded in support of Ugandan exiles and spent the rest of his life in exile in Saudi Arabia.
