Itzcoatl
Itzcoatl (c. 1380–1440) was the fourth tlatoani (ruler) of Tenochtitlan and a co-founder of the Aztec Triple Alliance in 1428. Together with his nephew Tlacaelel, he overthrew Tepanec dominance and forged the alliance between Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan that became the foundation of the Aztec Empire. He launched the systematic rewriting of Aztec history to legitimize the new imperial order.
