Jacques-Germain Soufflot

Built the church of Sainte-Geneviève in Paris as an attempt to combine Gothic structural lightness with classical form. The Revolution turned it into the Panthéon, a mausoleum for the nation's great men — a neoclassical church converted into a secular temple, which is the period's argument about religion made in stone.
