Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier
Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier co-invented the hot-air balloon with his brother Joseph-Michel, and was the first human to fly in a tethered balloon. The brothers' crewed flight over Paris on 21 November 1783 opened the age of aviation.
