39th President of the United States (1977–1981) who brokered the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel in 1978 and created the Department of Energy. His presidency was overshadowed by the 444-day Iran hostage crisis and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan; he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
