João IV of Portugal
João IV was the first king of the Braganza dynasty and led the Portuguese Restoration of 1640, ending sixty years of Iberian Union under Spanish Habsburg rule. His reign focused on securing Portuguese independence and recovering colonial territories seized by the Dutch during the union period. A noted musician, he was also known as the Restorer.
