John II of France
John II, called 'the Good,' suffered one of the most humiliating defeats in French medieval history at Poitiers in 1356, where he was captured by Edward the Black Prince and held for ransom. He voluntarily returned to English captivity when his son-hostage escaped, dying in London in 1364.
