Jozef Pilsudski

Polish statesman and military commander (1867–1935) who organised the Polish Legions during the First World War, proclaimed Polish independence on 11 November 1918, and as Commander-in-Chief defeated the Soviet Red Army at the Battle of Warsaw in August 1920, halting Soviet expansion westward. Later staged a coup in 1926 and governed as de facto dictator.
