Juliana of the Netherlands

Juliana was known as a down-to-earth and popular queen who cultivated an approachable, non-ceremonial style. Her reign saw Dutch decolonisation including the independence of Indonesia and Suriname, the founding of the European Community, and post-war Dutch economic recovery. She abdicated in 1980 in favour of her daughter Beatrix.
