Julius Caesar

Gaius Julius Caesar was a Roman general, statesman, and writer whose military conquests, political reforms, and ultimate dictatorship precipitated the transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire. His conquest of Gaul added vast territories to Rome, and his civil war victory made him master of the Roman world before his assassination on the Ides of March, 44 BC. His Commentarii on the Gallic Wars and Civil War remain models of clear Latin prose and firsthand military history.
