Karl Dönitz

Ran the U-boat campaign that came closest to severing Britain's Atlantic supply, and lost it to convoy escorts, long-range aircraft and the breaking of Enigma. Hitler named him head of state in the final days; he was sentenced at Nuremberg and served ten years.
