Kim Il-sung
Korean communist revolutionary (1912–1994) who, with Soviet backing, established the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1948, launched the Korean War in June 1950, and ruled North Korea until his death, building a hereditary cult of personality and a nuclear programme that his successors continued.
