Lajos Kossuth
Hungarian statesman and orator (1802–1894) who led the Hungarian Revolution of 1848–1849 as Governor-President, drafting the April Laws that abolished serfdom and established parliamentary government; after the revolution's defeat by Austrian and Russian forces he spent decades in exile promoting Hungarian independence and inspiring nationalist movements across Europe.
