Leonidas I
Leonidas I was King of Sparta who became one of history's greatest military heroes at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. He led a small Greek force, famously including 300 Spartans, in a heroic three-day stand against the massive Persian army of Xerxes I. His sacrifice delayed the Persian advance and became an enduring symbol of courage and self-sacrifice.
