Livy

Titus Livius (59 BCE - 17 CE) was the greatest Roman historian. His Ab Urbe Condita — History of Rome from its Foundation — ran to 142 books covering Roman history from the legendary founding to 9 BCE. Only 35 books survive. Livy's patriotic narrative of Republican virtue and Roman expansion shaped how the Western world understood Roman history for two millennia, influencing Machiavelli, the American Founders, and countless historians.
