Lord Dunmore (John Murray)

John Murray, 4th Earl of Dunmore, was the last royal governor of Virginia. His November 1775 proclamation offering freedom to enslaved people of rebel colonists who joined British forces was one of the most radical acts of the Revolutionary War, directly challenging the Revolution's universalist claims.
