Louis VI of France
Louis VI, called 'the Fat,' spent much of his reign pacifying the Île-de-France by subduing lawless barons who preyed on roads and peasants near Paris. He relied heavily on Abbot Suger of Saint-Denis as an adviser, laying the groundwork for a more centralized monarchy.
