Manuel Marulanda
Colombian peasant organiser (c. 1930–2008), born Pedro Antonio Marín, who co-founded the FARC in 1964 from peasant self-defence communities; as its supreme commander for over four decades he oversaw the movement's expansion into the world's largest Marxist insurgency, sustained by kidnapping for ransom and cocaine taxes.
