Marcus Aurelius
Marcus Aurelius was Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD and the last of the Five Good Emperors, as well as the most important Stoic philosopher after Epictetus. His private philosophical journal, published as the Meditations, remains one of the most beloved works of Stoic philosophy and personal reflection in Western literature. Despite constant warfare on the frontiers, he governed with wisdom and restraint while his Meditations reveal a man wrestling with duty, mortality, and the nature of the good life.
