Marcus Junius Brutus

Brutus, descended from the legendary Lucius Junius Brutus who expelled the kings, was a Stoic philosopher and close friend of Caesar who nonetheless joined the conspiracy out of Republican principle. After the assassination he controlled Greece and Macedonia, but was defeated twice at Philippi by Antony and Octavian and took his own life.
