Marcus Valerius Laevinus

Marcus Valerius Laevinus served as one of Rome's key commanders during the Second Punic War, tasked with preventing Macedon from opening a second front against Rome. In 214 BCE he won the Battle of Apollonia, defeating a Macedonian fleet and amphibious force. He subsequently negotiated the Treaty of Naupactus with the Aetolian League in 211 BCE, drawing the Aetolians into war against Philip V and keeping Macedon occupied in Greece. He also commanded successfully in Sicily. He served as consul in 220 and again in 210 BCE.
