Maria I of Portugal
Maria I was the first undisputed Queen of Portugal. She reversed many of Pombal's reforms and was deeply pious. After a mental breakdown following the deaths of her husband and son she was declared insane in 1792 and her son João acted as regent. The Napoleonic invasions forced the royal family to flee to Brazil in 1807, where she died.
