Marie Curie
Polish-French physicist and chemist who pioneered research on radioactivity and was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes (Physics 1903, Chemistry 1911). She discovered the elements polonium and radium and directed the first studies into the treatment of tumours using radioactive isotopes. Curie broke barriers for women in science and remains one of the most celebrated scientists in history.
