Marquis de Montcalm
Louis-Joseph de Montcalm-Gozon, Marquis de Montcalm, was the French commander in chief in North America from 1756 until his death at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759. He won notable earlier victories at Oswego and Ticonderoga, but was hampered by supply shortages, a corrupt colonial administration, and strategic disagreements with the colonial governor. He was mortally wounded in the same battle that killed his British counterpart Wolfe.
