Miklós Horthy
Austro-Hungarian rear admiral (1868–1957) who became Regent of Hungary (1920–1944) after the collapse of Béla Kun's Soviet Republic; governed a truncated Hungary embittered by the Treaty of Trianon, aligned with Nazi Germany to recover lost territories, but attempted to seek an armistice in 1944 and was deposed by a German-backed Arrow Cross coup.
