Muhammad of Ghor
Ghurid sultan whose defeat at Tarain in 1191 and victory on the same ground the following year opened the Ganges plain to conquest. Having no surviving sons, he raised Turkic slaves to command; one of them, Qutb ud-Din Aibak, founded the Delhi Sultanate after his assassination.
