Nero Claudius Drusus (Drusus the Elder)
Livia's younger son, Tiberius's brother, Germanicus's father, and the commander who took Roman armies to the Elbe between 12 and 9 BCE. He died on the return march after a fall from his horse, aged twenty-nine. The conquest he seemed to have achieved was undone at the Teutoburg Forest eighteen years later, but the family name he earned — Germanicus — outlasted it, and the branch of the Claudii he founded supplied Claudius and Nero.
