Nicias

Nicias negotiated the Peace of Nicias (421 BCE) ending the first phase of the Peloponnesian War. Reluctantly commanding the Sicily expedition, his delay due to a lunar eclipse allowed Syracuse to recover, leading to the total destruction of the Athenian force. He was executed by the Syracusans.
