Nnamdi Azikiwe
Nigerian nationalist and intellectual (1904–1996) who edited influential pro-independence newspapers, co-founded the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons in 1944, served as Governor-General of Nigeria at independence in 1960, and became the country's first President (1963–1966) before being overthrown in a military coup.
