Odoacer
Germanic chieftain of mixed Scirian-Hunnic heritage who deposed Romulus Augustulus in 476 CE and sent the western imperial insignia to Constantinople. Ruled Italy competently as 'King of Italy' for nearly two decades, maintaining Roman administrative structures. Defeated and killed by the Ostrogoth king Theodoric, who invited him to a banquet and personally cut him in half with a sword.
