Origen of Alexandria
Origen of Alexandria was the most prolific and ambitious theologian of the early Christian world. He produced the Hexapla, a six-column parallel edition of the Old Testament, and De Principiis, the first systematic Christian theology, synthesising Platonic philosophy with Christian revelation. His methods shaped Augustine, Aquinas, and the entire medieval theological tradition. He was tortured during the Decian persecution and declared heretical by the Second Council of Constantinople in 553 CE.
