Parmenion

Parmenion commanded the Macedonian left wing at Granicus, Issus, and Gaugamela, consistently urging caution against Alexander's bolder instincts. After his son Philotas was executed for alleged conspiracy, Alexander had Parmenion killed too — he could not leave such a powerful general alive and potentially hostile.
