Cézanne bridged Impressionism and the structural experiments of Cubism, reducing landscapes, still lifes, and figures to geometric essences while preserving the solidity of form. Working in isolation in Provence, he influenced virtually every painter of the 20th century. Picasso, Matisse, and Braque all credited him as the 'father of us all'.
