Pedro II of Portugal
Pedro II acted as regent from 1668 before becoming king in 1683. His reign secured the definitive recognition of Portuguese independence by Spain, and the Methuen Treaty of 1703 with England bound Portuguese wine exports to British cloth in a lasting commercial alliance.
